Talk:Contest Guide: The Greatest Lies of All Time

Everyone is a philosopher, said, among many others, Carl Popper.

Human behaviour is grounded in philosophy

Humans "see" the world only through the web of thoughts and concepts that make up a model of the world inside their heads.

Scenario (by way of supporting explanation): I see a man dressed in a bear costume coming towards me. Very convincing, but I am in the middle of a big city, so it cannot be a real bear.

In actual fact, however, although I don't know this, a bear did escape from the Zoo and it is coming towards me.

Let's philosophise.

"Man is by definition lazy, greedy, self-centered, and will always be tempted to use others (to the point of causing harm) to gain a personal advantage."

What kind of world will we "see" if this is our belief about human nature?

The biggest lie, then, is that philosophy is something that you study in higher education; and it does not have much relevance in the lives of ordinary people.
